On 6 March 2019, Dr Liaw Kim Kiat, whose experience in the Geoscience field spans almost 40 years, gave a lecture to students of University Technology PETRONAS.
Ms. Denise Cox, President of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) (2018-2019) paid a short visit to Malaysia and on 1 April, was the honorable speaker at the University of Malaya, where she met students from Malaysian AAPG student chapters.
AAPG student chapter Banaras Hindu University organised the annual programme which was a three-day geology fiesta from 19th February to 21st February 2019. The event was a great success as we had maximum participation from the students and received positive feedback from everyone. The annual programme consisted of intellectual seminars and workshops by staff of Reliance.
AAPG and EAGE are proud to jointly present the first Geosciences conference in Papua New Guinea in two decades. Endorsed by Department of Energy, PNG and supported by the PNG Chamber of Mines & SEAPEX, the conference will review the petroleum geology of Papua New Guinea in its tectonic setting as host to petroliferous marginal Phanerozoic basins on the northeast margin of the Australian continent.
UPES AAPG Student Chapter established in 2012 is one of the few active AAPG chapters in the country. Since its inception we have set multiple benchmarks with path breaking ideas, events and technical fests. The most recent addition to our list of achievements was our 3rd National Conference and Workshop, Crust’19, from the 8th to 10th of April 2019.
These days, managing the uncertainties in critical as the industry increases the cost efficiency while the petroleum sytem condition is getting more complex. Therefore, the integration of all subsurface uncertainties is crucial to have the best hydrocarbon prediction methods. Experts will attend, involve and share their experience and insights in understanding and managing the uncertainties from various play types in Asia Pacific and other Regions.
Mr. Ray Leonard’s VGP lecture “Climate Change, the Transitional Role of Fossil Fuels and Geopolitics” at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur was organized by its AAPG Student Chapter and the Petroleum Engineering Centre (ADRACEPE) on January 31, 2019.
From 27-28 September 2018, 126 delegates attended a 2-day GTW in Bangkok; AAPG Asia Pacific Region's 2nd successful event held in the Thai city. With the theme 'Back to the Future - the Past and Future of Oil and Gas Production in the Asia Pacific Region', the event saw 22 Oral and 9 poster presentations. Khun Waranon Laprabang, Acting Executive Vice President, Production Asset Group, PTTEP Thailand, gave a keynote address on 'Optimistic Look on Mature-field Development in a Complex Geological Environment of Thailand'. With strong sponsorship support from PTTEP, Chevron, Mubadala, MOECO and Ophir, as well as logistics support from CCOP, this event saw much technical exchange and networking amongst the delegates.
Together with EAGE, AAPG organised our 4th Oil & Gas Conference in Yangon, presented together with our affliated society, the Myanmar Geosciences Society. Held from 13-15 November 2018, this event drew support sponsors Woodside, Total, PTTEP, Chevron, Shearwater, Posco Daewoo, Saudi Aramco, CGG, Schlumberger and RISC. The program kicked off with addresses by Dr Sone Han, Vice Chairman of Myanmar Geosciences Society and U Zaw Aung, Director General for Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Myanmar.
AAPG Asia Pacific will present our third learning event in Indonesia; after Bali and Bandung. This Geosciences Technology Workshop (GTW) will be held from 7-8 August 2019 in Bogor, Greater Jakarta. The theme is 'The Art of Hydrocarbon Prediction: Managing Uncertainties' and the committee is very enthusiastic about the program. In September, some members of the committee met with PT Pertamina,to seek their support for this event. Helmed by an advisory board and a technical committee, this event is currently welcoming abstracts before 15 January.
