The judges were impressed with the high standard of presentations. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner, though in our minds, everyone is a winner. We are now pleased to announce the winning team for the 2012 AAPG IBA Competition:
Deepwater plays in Asia-Pacific remain a hot topic as many operators are active with their exploration activities whilst some fields are in the appraisal and development stage. New technologies and geological concepts were brought into the region and applied in a variety of studies and projects.

TRAPSPOT is the abbreviation of “Through Petroleum System with Seminar Poster & Fieldtrip”. This event was consist of 3 types of activity, First was the Seminar & Talkshow, Then we have the poster contest, and the last activity was Fieldtrip to South Sulawesi.
A consignment of valuable used geoscience books has arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, with another on its way to the University of Peking in China, freight for the latter shipment being kindly sponsored by Schlumberger Beijing.
I am pleased to contribute to this first newsletter to AAPG Asia Pacific members. AAPG has been increasing its presence in the Asia Pacific region over recent years and the newsletter marks another step in that process.
Indonesian AAPG Student Chapters had a chance to participate at the 36th IPA Convention and Exhibition, May 23 to 25, 2012 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
Dr. Mazlan Madon, our AAPG Alternate House of Delegates Member for Malaysia, and Malaysia’s candidate to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf was successfully elected to serve as a member of the Commission for a five-year term of 2012-2017.
Geo-Intro – The Earth Demanding Us, was organized and held on the 21st April 2012 at SM Sains Selangor, Cheras. This event was kindly sponsored by Talisman Energy Inc.,and was free to all participating students.
