The newly-formed AAPG Malaysian Special Interest Group held their first gathering and welcomed Dr Mazlan Madon, the custodian, author and well known authority on the Malaysian Continental Shelf. Mazlan is a recognized figure for both his experience and also his publications, with the “Petroleum Geology and Resources of Malaysia” still a key reference for petroleum geologists.

From 7-8 August, AAPG Asia Pacific presented a Technical Symposium from 7-8 August, 2019 in Bogor, Greater Jakarta, Indonesia. Helmed by a strong Advisory Board and Committee, this event was highly successful, with 112 registrants from 7 countries.

Mr Appolinaris Stefanus Leo Anis (popularly known as Leo), passed away from a heart attack in Bogor, Indoesia, on 9 August. He had graced us with his presence at our AAPG Technical Symposium, held in Bogor from 7-8 August 2019. Leo was a Keynote Speaker and a Session Chair. We wish his wife Trivina, and children Alvin and Katarina, our deepest and sincerest condolences and much strength during this very hard time. He had just turned 50.

Call for abstracts is now open for the 1st AAPG/EAGE Papua New Guinea Petroleum Geoscience Conference & Exhibition. The conference will focus on those who explore for petroleum accumulations, appraise them and seek to develop them as producing oil and gas fields. Papers on oil and gas fields and their reservoirs and production where it pertains to the subsurface science of the accumulation of petroleum in the region will be considered.

A Geosciences Technology Workshop was presented in Auckland from 15-17 April 2019. Themed : 'Gas Hydrates – From Potential Geohazard to Carbon-Efficient Fuel?', it had a strong technical program, guided by Convenor Dr Ingo Pecher and his committee.
