The September EXPLORER is our International Developments issue and includes some previews of this year’s International Conference and Exhibition happening this month in Oman, including a look at the unique and fascinating geology of Oman itself. We have an article on some cutting-edge developments in the use of microbes for enhanced oil recovery, and we take a look the little-known geological work of Leonardo da Vinci.

The July EXPLORER is our Geoscience Information and Data issue, and so we take a look at various ongoing efforts to bring “dark data” into the Digital Age, in the United States and abroad. We also have a bit of political analysis of the two presidential frontrunners’ respective records and policy positions on oil and gas. We also launch four new regular sections inspired by AAPG’s new e-newsletters for geoscientists.

The June EXPLORER is our Unconventional Resources issue and includes some previews of this month’s URTeC gathering in Houston, including a look at were some of the next big plays are development, an broad overview of the future of U.S. energy production, and other highlights. We also take a look at the recently discovered “elephant” in Namibia, and a profile of this year’s AAPG Foundation Teacher of the Year Award honoree.

The May EXPLORER is our Domestic Developments issue and includes some coverage on the current state of the U.S. oil and gas industry, an ongoing research project into geologic hydrogen and the role of ESG in improving the industry’s cultural obstacles. We also include some international coverage – specifically, the IUGS’ recent controversial decision regarding designation of the Anthropocene epoch.

The March issue of Explorer centers around CCUS developments and challenges, addressing its urgency, when it could be ready to roll out if countries issue mandates, and more.

The January EXPLORER is our annual World Developments issue. We review the state of the industry over the course of the past year and offer analysis and prediction about the year to come, including some coverage of how the ongoing Israel-Hamas war can be expected to impact the global energy market. We announce this year’s Honors and Awards winners, as well as the newest slate of candidates for the Executive Committee.
