The January EXPLORER is our annual World Developments issue. We review the state of the industry over the course of the past year and offer analysis and prediction about the year to come, including some coverage of how the ongoing Israel-Hamas war can be expected to impact the global energy market. The December EXPLORER is our Astrogeology issue and includes coverage of two ongoing missions to explore asteroids Psyche and Lucy, all of the lunar exploration activity planned for 2024, as well as an update on the Mars Perseverance rover’s extended mission at Jezero Crater. The November EXPLORER is our Energy Transition and Sustainable Development issue. We take a look at some of the impressive winning projects of the AAPG Sustainable Development in Energy Contest, offer a preview of this month’s highly-profile COP28 gathering in the Middle East, and sample some of the extraterrestrial treasures recently delivered to Earth by the ORISIS-REx mission.

The October EXPLORER is our annual Geophysical Review issue and so includes an overview of the current state of the geophysics industry. We also include some coverage of some new educational developments in which AAPG has been involved in collaboration with Oklahoma State University, as well as some developments with the iconic Imperial Barrel Award competition. We also take a look at some of the geological history of Lisbon, Portugal, where a recent Geosciences Technology Workshop was held. We also offer a profile on this year’s Harrison Schmitt Award winner, “Martian geologist” Kirsten Siebach.
