In the June EXPLORER, we look into some of the advances in AI and machine learning in making production forecasts, Brazil’s expected growing oil demand as a major component of its national energy transition, as well as some preview of this month’s Unconventional Resources Technology Conference and a recap of the recent historic GeoGulf ’23 gathering in Houston and its tour of NASA, hosted by astronaut-geologist Harrison Schmitt.

In the May EXPLORER, we examine the current jobs outlook in the energy industry. We also report on the world-class hydrocarbon prospects of Alaska’s North Slope, and we take a look at the deepwater analogs of Barbados. In the April EXPLORER, we take a look at the current state of offshore exploration and production. We also conclude our two-part series on a geoscience education outreach program in Colombia that offers hope for some widespread societal improvements and could serve as a model for the oil industry worldwide. The March EXPLORER is our annual Education Issue. We take a look at an educational outreach program that is addressing energy poverty and other social ills in Colombia. We also examine the growing and expected talent shortage in the energy industry, as well as the changing face of the geoscience workforce. We also take a look at some opportunities for petroleum geologists to apply their skills in the exploration and extraction of helium and hydrogen. Also, this issue includes biographies for all of this year’s AAPG officer candidates.

The February EXPLORER is our annual issue dedicated to The Business Side of Petroleum Geology. We take a look at the investment landscape for oil and gas in the coming year, as well as some nascent trends to make the oilfield for economic and environmentally-friendly, including the development small modular refineries, and the increasing appeal of super basins. We also include some major milestones in the ongoing geological exploration of Mars, as well as an update on the unfolding political upheaval in Peru and it’s impact on geoscience professionals living and working within the beleaguered country.
