Hedberg Research Conferences

From time to time the AAPG Research Committee selects a topic for critical examination. They will invite scientists from various disciplines (geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, etc.) to discuss state-of-the-art concepts, methodologies, case histories, and future directions relating to this subject. The conference are held in informal settings with a maximum of 80-100 attendees.

This conference aims to stimulate new ideas and joint industry-academic ventures that can accelerate the exploration and development of shale oil resources in mature petroleum source kitchens in petroliferous basins. Such further advances are likely to be among some of the most significant developments for the oil and gas industry in the next decade as conventional petroleum traps become depleted, while unconventional resources –show continual improvement in productivity, but are inefficient in recovery factors. The conference will provide a venue for both industry and academic geoscientists to increase awareness of the needs and interests of each party and focusing on emerging concepts, novel technologies, and global case studies.

An AAPG/SEG/SPWLA Hedberg Research Conference

There is a constant and rapid evolution of hydraulic fracturing techniques; however there are important uncertainties remaining with respect to our understanding.  A current view in the industry is that 80% of the production comes from 20% of the fracs. If that is correct, considerable money is wasted by the industry. The purpose of this conference is to bring together geologists, engineers, geophysicists, petrophysicists and other geoscientists to address these issues and determine multidisciplinary solutions for the future.
