The deep high-temperature, high-pressure Lower Cretaceous Bashijiqike sandstone (buried to depths as great as 6.5-7.1km) is an important natural gas reservoir in Keshen gas field, Kuqa depression of the Tarim Basin. Reservoir quality is a critical risk factor in the development of these ultradeep reservoirs.

The Late Permian to Late Triassic Great Bank of Guizhou (GBG) in southwest China is one of the few isolated carbonate platforms in the world that exposes an essentially complete record of initiation, development, and drowning across multiple platform-to-basin transects. The platform is exceptionally exposed in cross section at the surface by a faulted syncline that rotated strata to a dip angle of approximately 65°.

The world-class Middle–Upper Devonian carbonate outcrops of the Lennard Shelf, Canning Basin, Western Australia, offer a unique opportunity to examine reefal carbonate shelf-to-basin evolution in response to multiple coeval extrinsic and intrinsic drivers. Variable styles of carbonate stratigraphic architecture and heterogeneity developed as a function of the interplay between long hierarchical accommodation trends, global biological crises, greenhouse-to-transitional climatic changes, and syndepositional tectonics.
