Site Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How do I access my Subscriptions?

If you are logged in there are two ways to access your Bulletin, Datapages Archives, PTTC, Interpretation, and Environmental Geosciences Journal subscriptions.

From your profile: In your profile scroll down to see the Subscriptions area on the left. Here you will see 'Access' buttons for all your included/purchased subscriptions – click to gain access. You will see 'Purchase' buttons for those you do not currently have access to but are eligible to buy – click to start purchase process.

MegaMenu: If you are logged in use the menu to go to the respective landing pages of any of your Subscriptions. If you do not have access you will simply access as a guest.

  • Where is "Members Only"?

It has been expanded and incorporated into a Profile interface. At the top right of every page, you will find a Login button. AAPG members/users that previously had an account are preregistered.

After logging in you will see a "My Profile" link at the top right of every page. Go there to edit your information, set privacy settings and access your personal AAPG information.

  • Where is the Interactive Map?

The interactive map can be opened from any page by clicking on the world map icon in the header and you will find it in the SCIENCE menu under "Geographic" and "Map".  The map has several layers that can be turned on/off and several backgrounds to choose from. View in full screen, zoom in and out, and click on the icons to find additional information.

  • What are the pages under Home in the main menu?

When you hover over Home in the main menu you will see some Focus pages. Think of these as versions of the Home page tailored to specific audiences. While the default Home page (seen when first coming to www.aapg.org or by clicking on Home or the logo in the header) provides more generalized information accommodating all audiences. For example, the Member Focus page will take you to a version of the default Home page that pulls in information more specific to Members of AAPG.

You also have the ability to set one of the Focus pages, or one of several other pages available, as your preferred Home page by clicking the  button from the page. After logging in, you will be redirected to your preferred Home page. You can see which page is set as your preferred Home page inside your Profile page.

  • My MegaMenu is hiding my login! What can I do?

The answer is simply – “move your mouse” completely off the menu. As long as your mouse is touching the MegaMenu it will continue to display.

  • Why did my log in fail? I know I entered my password correctly.

The answer could be your password doesn’t fit certain criteria. Be sure it is six or more characters long, it has no special characters or spacebands.

  • Why can’t I see the comment I just submitted?

Comments and ratings on the AAPG website are not published directly. They go through a moderation process. You only need to click “submit” once. If there are enough comments in the list, you may not see your submission confirmation.

  • How do I Share a page?

You can share any page on the site by using the social icons to the left of the search box (top right below the main menu). Direct shortcuts to share via Twitter, via Facebook, or via mail are provided. This button allows you to share on any of these, as well as other, platforms.

Note: If you share a restricted page (ex. only accessible by AAPG Members) users will be asked to login when they click the link. If they do not have the proper credentials they will then see an Access Denied message.

  • What is bookmarking?

Look for the opportunity to bookmark articles and event pages. These collect in your Profile where you also may manage, organize and even share with other users.

  • Where is the Member Registry?

The Member Registry is found under Career in the main menu.

  • Where is Education?

Education events can be found under CAREER in the main menu.

In order to further refine and simplify the AAPG website it became evident that a "Career" tab would better serve the AAPG membership needs. Here are combined not only Education opportunities - both In Person and Online - but other career-serving programs such as the Distinguished Lecturers and the Visiting Geoscientists. All are listed under "Training".

This tab now accommodates Job needs by including the Career Center and classified ads. The link to the Member Registry is also listed here.

A viable part to keeping one's career vital is participating on many levels. Under this heading in the CAREER tab are opportunities to submit abstracts for events and publications, propose courses for further training experiences and eventually begin to establish mentorships.

The AAPG N.E.T. provides online communities for AAPG members and site users to Network, Engage, and Talk publicly and privately. Keep a close eye on this link as the communities come on line.

  • What is the new Career section in the main menu?

The Career section consolidates training opportunities (both in person and online), job information, as well as participation and networking opportunities.

  • How do I pay or renew my dues?

You need to establish your profile on this new site before you may pay your dues. It only takes a couple of seconds to do so by clicking on the Login button in the top, right-hand corner of this screen.

Should this be your first visit to the website you’ll be asked to select your display name. If you like the default name offered, simply click Submit. You are then taken to the next step where you'll be asked to set up your privacy settings. However, if you are in a hurry you may skip this step and go straight into your profile.

    I already did this.

    Great (and thank you)!

You must be logged in to access your profile where special action buttons are provided for all users. Once logged in click on My Profile. Under your profile picture locate the Actions header and under this find "Pay Your Dues" under this button: Pay dues
