Publication Pipeline donates used Geology books to AAPG Student Chapter in Indonesia

Books are something really precious and very meaningful for students. It can grow and expand our knowledge. The AAPG Publication Pipeline committee collects, does inventories, boxes, stores, and sends, free of charge to the recipients, donated geoscience periodicals and books to university libraries and other libraries overseas which are in need of them for use by the students, faculty, and researchers. Our university Diponegoro made a request to the AAPG Pipeline several months ago.

This request came from Mr. Edi Bambang Setyobudi, who contacted AAPG stalwart at the Publication Pipeline, Mr. Chuck Caughey. In response to our request, the AAPG Publication Pipeline assembled two pallets of geoscience publications for shipment to AAPG University of Diponegoro Student Chapter. These consisted of used textbooks and journals, selected for the topics noted in our request. The AAPG Pipeline ship entire donations and cannot select individual books or journals. The Indonesian Petroleum Association is sponsoring shipping costs, and these publications will be provided at no cost to the university. We are most grateful to the IPA.

After several months of paper work, which included a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy in Houston, the books were finally despatched from Houston on 7 June, 2016. The consignment arrived in Indonesia at the port of Tanjung Emas Semarang on 15 June 2016.

After ironing out some documentation issues with Indonesian Customs, the consignment was released a month later. On 30 August, the books arrived at our University's Geology Department and these were received by Mr Reddy Setyawan. The moving process was ably aided by students, both AAPG members and non-members in a show of support. Books were then stamped, indexed and displayed in the library of the Geology department.

This donation of books will have a great affect on our institution and and hopefully will increase our accreditation score that is due from the assessor in November this year.

We would like to say thank you to the AAPG Publication Pipeline for this generous donation. We also say again a big thank you to the IPA (Indonesian Petroleum Association) for sponsoring the cost of the sea freight, so we now have wonderful new resources.
