Influence of Volcanism and Associated Magmatic Processes on Petroleum Systems

14–16 March 2017, Oamaru, New Zealand

The technical program has been announced for AAPG's second Geosciences Technology Workshop held in New Zealand.

Sessions will include:

  • Volcanic and Igneous Intrusive Structures in Sedimentary Basins: Regional Cases.
  • Volcanic and Igneous Intrusive Structures in Sedimentary Basins: Morphology and Modes of Emplacement.
  • Igneous Activity, Source Rock Maturation and Charge.
  • Oil and Gas Reservoirs in Volcanic and Volcaniclastic Rocks and Associated Strata.

The technical program will also include 25 poster presentations.

Featuring an international list of participants, representing both industry and academia, this GTW is designed to examine how magmatic systems interfere with petroleum systems — and how to improve exploration efforts in areas where magmatic processes have resulted in complex geology.

Keynote Speakers:

The workshop features presentations from five keynote speakers: Nick Schofield, Dougal Jerram, Jane Newman, Simon Holford and Sverre Planke. Learn more about these eminent speakers and their presentation topics.

Optional Field Trip (16 March):

Basaltic Volcanism on a Carbonate Shelf: Facies and Diagenesis

The local, one-day, optional field trip, held as part of the GTW, will be held in the picturesque coastal town of Oamaru ... where a mid-Cenozoic basaltic volcanic complex was emplaced within the margin of the Canterbury Basin.

Optional Field Trip (18-20 March):

North Island Field Trip - Petroleum Systems associated with Volcanism

The technical committee is privately organizing a second, optional, field trip from 18-20 March 2017. Please contact at the University of Canterbury.

Sponsorship opportunities are available to highlight your corporate visibility with the expected influential audience.
