Paleozoic Hydrocarbon Potential of North Africa

1-4  November 2017 | Marrakech, Morocco

The Paleozoic succession of North Africa is a prolific petroleum system which hosts nearly 30% of all reserves in the region. The importance of this sequence was demonstrated over half a century ago with the discovery of oil in Cambrian sandstones in the super giant Hassi Messaoud field of Algeria. As established Mesozoic and Cenozoic basins in surrounding areas mature, explorers are increasingly shifting their attention to Paleozoic plays. Compared to their younger counterparts, these targets pose unique challenges and an increased risk profile due to their depth and structurally complex nature. Learn more...

Workshop Sessions:
  • Tectonics and Regional Setting of the Paleozoic Basins of North Africa
  • Paleozoic Petroleum Systems of North Africa
  • Producing Play Types, Field Examples and Proven Exploration Models

Detailed Program

Field Trip:

This two day field trip crosses beautiful landscapes, high reliefs and verdant valleys of the High Atlas and pre-Saharan landscapes of the Ouarzazate Basin. Learn more...

Benefits of Attending:

This workshop provides the opportunity to learn and discuss the latest knowledge, techniques and technologies applied to petroleum reservoirs in the Paleozoic of North Africa which can be utilized to explore for and develop these reservoirs. The workshop will provide a set-up for networking, interacting and sharing expertise with fellow petroleum scientists interested in developing and producing hydrocarbon resources within the Paleozoic of North Africa.
