AAPG UGM SC Activities - for Yogyakarta Earthquake Relief

This program’s summary is earthquake with 5.9 SR (BMG Indonesia version) / 6.2 (USGS version) shocked Yogyakarta on May 27th 2006 at 5.56 am. Over than 5000 civil death because of this earthquake, while more than 30,000 civil have been injured and 200,000 left homeless. AAPG SC UGM try to participate to give relief effort for the earthquake victims in Yogyakarta and its surrounding. With sense of solidarity, AAPG UGM SC held 3 activities for earthquake relief.

First program is Social Activity: “Participated in Relief Effort for Earthquake Victims in Yogyakarta and Its Surrounding” has been executed on May 28th – June 6th, 2006. We try to distributed the logistics and foods to victims who lived in remote area and the places that were felt had a serious damage especially in regency of Bantul and Klaten. Several companies (PT ANTAM, SCHLUMBERGER, BP, and PT NEWMONT) also cooperated with AAPG SC UGM for giving stock of logistics and foods. This activity was stopped for a while for prepared the final test in campus.

Second program is Presentation “Why Earthquake Happens” has been executed in July 27th, 2006 in Beluk village, Bayat, Central Java. The speaker is Mr. Agus Hendratno ST. MT. (Geological Engineering Department UGM) and was attended by 40 participants from village community. This program’s summary is Indonesia is a country which located in earthquake zone so we must build houses with good construction in order to minimization the impact of earthquake.

The third program is “Presentation about Earthquake” which has been executed in September 10th, 2006 in SMP N 2 Yogyakarta. The speakers of this program are AAPG SC UGM members (Ridho Feraldo and Erick Prim) and was attendance by 40 students. The summary of this program is Indonesia is a country which located in earthquake zone so we must build houses with good construction in order to minimization the impact of earthquake. First things to do when earthquake happens is don’t panic, walk to outside of house and protect your head with both of your hand.
