Allagu Balaguru is currently working as a Principal Exploration Geologist in Shell Malaysia Regional Exploration Team since 2012. He has worked as a Senior Exploration Geologist in Talisman Malaysia (Repsol) particularly in Sabah Exploration from 2009-2011. Prior to this he has worked as a Senior to Staff to Principal Exploration Geologist in Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd from 2001-2009, where during this time he has explored the basins around Sabah, Sarawak, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar and Timor Laste. Graduated with BSC in Geology from the National University of Malaysia in 1989 and started his career as an Exploration Geologist and progressed through as Chief Geologist in the Geological Survey of Malaysia, Sabah from 1989 to 1998. He completed his MSC (Geology) in 1997. He then carried on his research work and completed his PhD on "Tectonic evolution and sedimentation of Sabah" in 2001 from Royal Holloway, University of London, which was fully sponsored by SE Asia Research Group under the supervision of Prof. Robert Hall and Prof. Gary Nichlos. He has about 27 years of industry and research work experience in E & P companies. His current interest is integrated regional geology, basin and play base evaluation, structural analyses and seismic sequence stratigraphy driven by seismic applications for reservoir characterization of shallow to deepwater. He has several publications to his name and has given presentations in various conferences and workshops. He is currently an active member of AAPG, GSM (Geological Society of Malaysia) and IGM (Institute Geology of Malaysia).
