Central Texas and the San Antonio area offer a spectacular showcase of well-exposed geology for field study. Our field trip lineup varies from multi-day trips for the serious field geologist to single-day trips that are suitable for a day out with the spouse. Weather conditions should be optimal in all trip localities this time of year and the Texas wildflowers will be in full bloom as you investigate Cambrian through Cretaceous outcrops of the Edwards Plateau and Hill Country regions. The Texas Gulf coast is close at hand for the study of modern depositional processes. Trips in the vicinity of San Antonio will look at the roles that the geology and the Edwards aquifer have played in San Antonio and the surrounding area. Trips to Belize and New Mexico will examine the sequence stratigraphy of classic reservoir analogs within modern and ancient settings, respectively.

The following descriptions provide detailed trip information, including localities and itineraries, fees and departure/return times and locations. Note that all trips have limited enrollments, so sign up soon. Also, prior to making your travel plans, please confirm that the trip will take place.

All field trips will depart from and return to “Convention Way” (parallel to Market Street in front of the convention center) unless otherwise noted. Please refer to page 56 for details on parking in the area.
