The word “interpretation” can apply to many things.

In general, it’s the action of explaining the meaning of something.

Philosophers interpret or assign meanings to various concepts, symbols, or objects under consideration.

Language interpretation is the facilitation of dialogue between parties using different languages.

Aesthetic interpretation offers an explanation of the meaning of a work of art.

There’s even an Interpretation Act, a stock short title used for legislation relating to the interpretation of legislation.

For geoscientists, Interpretation is a new peer-reviewed journal published jointly by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and AAPG.

The journal Interpretation is dedicated to the practice of explaining and/or interpreting geophysical data, an area where the sciences of both AAPG and SEG overlap.

The first issue was published in August. AAPG members can access the Journal by logging into the Members Only section. Non-members can view a copy by creating a New Customer account.

The next issue of Interpretation will be available the first week of November. To receive a complimentary print copy of the November issue fill out a brief survey by October 18 .

Upon receipt, review the articles. Read and interpret them. Think about what Interpretation means to you and let us know. We’d love to hear from you.
