An AAPG Geosciences Technology Workshop

Bakken / Three Forks / Plus Emerging Plays

Published
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

In the late 1950's small scale operations began the production in the Bakken formation, but only recently has the area seen such a large boost in production. The productive growth of the Bakken has quickly accelerated well beyond previous expectations. With crude oil production reaching a record high of more than 1 million barrels per day (bpd) in April and May of 2014, many companies, researchers and scientist alike are flocking to the region to learn and discover more.

Advances in techniques & technologies, better understandings of the area, and the large size of the formations have peaked much interest as to what the potential and future growth of the Bakken and Three Forks will bring.

With so much excitement being drawn to the Bakken and Three Forks formations, a demand for latest knowledge and insights is also at an all time high, and the Bakken / Three Forks / Plus Emerging Plays, an AAPG Geoscience Technology Workshop will be offering just that.

Participants of the workshop will learn how to be successful in utilizing the Three Forks in a stacked-pay, pad-drilling strategy when producing various Bakken members.

Attendees will also learn how to apply 3D seismic and seismic attributes, use geochemistry and geochemical information to map sweet spots and to predict fracture behavior (including fluid behavior in the fractures, including fracture interference when in?ll drilling) and more!

Join us November 17-19, 2014 in Golden, Colorado at the Green center on the campus of Colorardo School of Mines for a three day look into what it takes to be successful in the Bakken and Three Forks.

Topics include:
  • Reservoir characterization
  • Pore space architecture of the Three Forks
  • Geochemical considerations
  • Imaging / 3D seismic integration
  • Workflows for reservoir modeling
  • Fracture networks
  • Diagenesis
  • Pore pressure and hydraulic fracturing
  • Proppants
  • Completions
  • and much more

Stay tuned for a preliminary list of speakers and presentations.
