Geosciences Technology Workshops

AAPG GTWs deliver up-to-date technical content to AAPG members and the industry. Their venues address “How are we doing it now?” through an examination of the latest practices illustrated with field case studies and examples. Their overriding focus is on the sharing of information among individuals knowledgeable in a topic in a highly interactive environment.

Attendees, practitioners and scientists have an opportunity to discuss real cases, issues, and experiences. The AAPG Geosciences Technology Workshops follow two tracks for discussion: research and application.

GTW - Middle East

Begins in 3 days!

Beirut, Lebanon
27-29 May 2013
Challenges of New Frontier Off-Shore Deep Water Hydrocarbon Basins: Focus on the Levant Basin and East Mediterranean

The timing of this proposed workshop is appropriate, as the Lebanese offshore licensing round has been announced to start on May 2nd, 2013; by that time exploration might start in five new blocks offshore Cyprus. A more profound understanding of the key elements affecting the prospectivity of the Levant Basin (as a frontier hydrocarbon province) will have wide application across the region and in other similar basins.

GTW - Asia Pacific

Begins in 11 days!

Registration Open

Accomodations Available

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
4-5 June 2013
Profits & Pitfalls of Shallow Seismic Anomalies

This will be AAPG’s first-ever GTW in Malaysia. There have been several recent well-tests of shallow seismic anomalies in Malaysia and in SE Asia) – with decidedly mixed results. Speakers will be invited to work through pre- and post-drill analysis and then focus on lessons learned to design a way forward so that the industry can increase the success-rate from these class of exploration targets.

GTW - North America

Begins in 53 days!

Registration Open

Accomodations Available

Baltimore, Maryland USA
16-17 July 2013
Geomechanics and Reservoir Characterization of Carbonates and Shales

The focus for this GTW will be on established and emerging shale plays of northeastern North America, including the Marcellus, Utica, New Albany, Lorraine, and more. Join in the discussion of new findings, lessons learned, and emerging (“young”) technologies related to shale play geomechanics and reservoir characterization as they relate to finding sweet spots, mapping fractures and fracture behavior, optimizing hydraulic fracturing.

GTW - North America

Begins in 74 days!

Registration Open

Houston, Texas USA
6-7 August 2013
Sweet Spots, Reservoir Compartmentalization and Connectivity

The focus of this GTW will be understanding compartmentalization and connectivity of reservoirs, an increasingly important concept in all fields, ranging from new shale and carbonates plays, to mature conventional fields, both onshore and offshore. This workshop contains presentations and discussions of new technologies and techniques, along with lessons learned in order to optimize exploration in compartmentalized reservoirs, and to best exploit mature fields. The presentations bring together technology, science, and case studies to provide useful, useable information that can ultimately improve the economics of the fields.

GTW - Canada

Begins in 163 days!

Registration Open

Vancouver, BC Canada
3-5 November 2013
Hydrocarbon Charge Considerations in Liquid-Rich Unconventional Petroleum Systems

The focus of this Vancouver GTW - 3-5 November, is liquid-rich unconventional petroleum systems. These have become significant worldwide exploration targets. Understanding the hydrocarbon charge system and production capabilities are critical for liquid-rich unconventional plays to be economically successful. Defining which geochemical and geological parameters are keys to success, as well as their associated limits, is needed to better assist the evaluation of new liquid-rich unconventional play opportunities.

GTW - North America

Begins in 172 days!

Registration Open

Accomodations Available

Austin, Texas USA
12-13 November 2013
Reservoir Quality in Unconventionals

As the industry gains experience in developing shales, carbonates, and other unconventional reservoirs, optimization becomes critical. The focus of this GTW will be understanding the key determinants of producibility, and the reservoir characteristics that allow pinpointing productive zones and determining the best completion, stimulation, and developmental strategies.

GTW - Latin America

Begins in 198 days!

Trinidad & Tobago
8-10 December 2013
Deep Horizon and Deepwater Frontier Exploration in Latin America and the Caribbean
