Who Should Attend

This course is for geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and support technicians who need to know about hydraulic fracturing.

Description

In today’s oil and gas producing environment, Hydraulic Fracturing and other types of stimulation, play major roles in enhancing petroleum reserves and daily production. This course is a comprehensive course designed to teach the theory, mechanics, and design and post-fracture analysis associated with Hydraulic Fracturing and does not require prior advanced fracturing skills as a prerequisite for registration.

This e-symposium provides highlights of the hydraulic fracturing mechanics, analysis, and design, and is derived from a two and one-half (2-1/2) day course which is designed for drilling, completion, production engineers, engineering technicians, geologists, well-site and completion supervisors, and managers, who desire to possess a comprehensive and integral knowledge of Hydraulic Fracturing.

Topics Include:

  • Introduction to Hydraulic Fracturing
      • Introduction
      • History
  • Pre-Treatment Formation Evaluation
      • Geologic Considerations
            • Lithology
            • Clay Content
            • Fault Patterns
      • Logging Considerations
      • Mechanical Properties
      • Core Analysis
      • Pre-Fracture Well Testing
  • Rock Mechanics and Fracture Geometry
      • Formation Characteristics
      • Rock Mechanics
      • Fracture Hydraulics
      • Mineralogy
      • Fracture Geometry
  • Fracture Azimuth
  • Fracturing Fluids and Additives
      • Fracturing
      • Treatment Size
      • Fluid Characteristics
      • Delayed Crosslinked Systems
      • Crosslinked Fracturing Fluids
      • Foam Fracturing, Energized, Acid, Alcohol, Water Externa Emulsion, & Oil Based Fluids
      • Fracture Fluid Additives
      • QC Checklist

Structure of the E-Symposium

Each e-symposium consists of one-hour live e-symposium, along with material for one full day of independent study. The live portion will be followed by a full day of independent study (not a live event). The one-hour live e-symposium can be accessed from any computer anywhere in the world using a high-speed internet connection. After the event is over, you will receive via email information about accessing the asynchronous segment (not live) which consists of your independent study materials, to be accessed and studied at any time. You will be able to email responses to the readings, along with your study question answers for CEU credit (if you sign up for the extended package).
