Who Should Attend
This e-symposium is ideal for geologists and geophysicists, both in industry and academia. Materials covered will be valuable to both explorationists and exploitationists, and anyone looking to "think outside the box" and be more creative in exploration.
Objectives and Content
Deep-water deposits are exploration targets in many basins worldwide. Much has been learned both about the process of deep-water sedimentation as well as the products of these processes from the analysis of 3D seismic data. This presentation will focus on the seismic stratigraphic and seismic geomorphologic expression of deep-water deposits, including both reservoir and non-reservoir facies. Turbidites as well as mass transport deposits will be illustrated and models for deposition of both will be discussed. These deposits also will be discussed from within a sequence stratigraphic framework, integrating geologic principles and geophysical observations. Seismic stratigraphic and seismic geomorphologic analytical techniques and workflows will also be addressed in the course of this presentation.
The live portion will be followed by a full day of independent study (not a live event). The one-hour live e-symposium can be accessed from any computer anywhere in the world using a high-speed internet connection. After the event is over, you will receive via email information about accessing the asynchronous segment (not live) which consists of your independent study materials, to be accessed and studied at any time. You will be able to email responses to the readings, along with your study question answers for CEU credit (if you sign up for the extended package).
