Reservoir connectivity is critical in the evaluation and development of many oil and gas fields that consist of discrete, lenticular sand units. Poor reservoir connectivity may lead to a high degree of reservoir compartmentalization, resulting in large capital investments to extract hydrocarbons and/or low hydrocarbon recovery factors. Being able to predict several reservoir connectivity scenarios is an important aspect in determining the optimal well layout for field development plans. It is important to understand how reservoir connectivity is a complex uncertainty and how it depends on sand/shale (S/Sh) ratios, sandbody geometries and distributions, syn-depositional fault distribution, post-depositional fault distributions, geometries and transmissibility characteristics.

Further, because many target reservoirs are discontinuous and thus potentially compartmentalized, understanding connectivity within such reservoir systems is vital for developing an economically viable field. This is particularly true of fluvial reservoirs. This e-symposium focuses on methods for predicting connectivity within clastic fluvial systems.

Topics covered will include:

  • Channel Belts as reservoir units
  • Connectivity of reservoir facies within channel belts
  • Connectivity between channel belt reservoirs
  • Sandbody geometries and distributions
  • Fluvial systems
  • Sand/shale ratios
  • Syn- and post-depositional fault distributions
Structure of the E-Symposium

Each e-symposium consists of one-hour live e-symposium, along with material for one full day of independent study. The live portion will be followed by a full day of independent study (not a live event). The one-hour live e-symposium can be accessed from any computer anywhere in the world using a high-speed internet connection. After the event is over, you will receive via email information about accessing the asynchronous segment (not live) which consists of your independent study materials, to be accessed and studied at any time. You will be able to email responses to the readings, along with your study question answers for CEU credit (if you sign up for the extended package).

Price Includes: Video, PDF of presentation, additional readings / resources. A link to course materials will be provided upon registration.
