Dale Leckie has a Ph. D. from McMaster University and has been active in petroleum geology for 30 years. Dale was Chief Geologist at Nexen Energy ULC, a Research Scientist at Geological Survey of Canada and an explorationist at Petro-Canada. Dale was President of CSPG (2014, Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists) and SEPM (2008-09, Society for Sedimentary Geology). He has written widely and spoken on many aspects of petroleum geology and basins around the world. He has received numerous awards from AAPG, SEPM and CSPG. Dale is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Geology at University of Calgary. He is a specialist in geology of Western Canada, petroleum geology, sedimentology, basin analysis and sequence stratigraphy. Dale has been a member of several Professional technical societies since his graduate school days – AAPG, CSPG, SEPM, GAC and APEGA. Society membership enhanced his professional career and provided long term networking opportunities. Initially, Dale’s support of these societies was technical - presenting and publishing papers, leading field trips and organizing conferences, all of which honed his technical and management skills. Later in his career, when asked to run for the executive of these societies, Dale’s attitude was that since he had benefited so much from them, it was time to pay back. These technical societies had helped him to make his career.
