Integration of Multibeam Bathymetry and Backscatter Data with 2-D Seismic Data

The Gulf of Mexico is one of the most prolific oil and gas basins in the world. Understandably, the region is also home to many deeply buried mature source rocks and migration pathways to the surface, which result in petroleum seepage on the seafloor. The emerging mineral-rich fluids invite microbes, mollusks and clam to feed on them, and these communities located around the seep locations form hard surfaces and appear to be different from the surrounding seafloor. Such hard surfaces are acoustically reflective and thus are detected by the technology available today.

A History of the Energy Minerals Division of the AAPG: Part 2

The Energy Minerals Division celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2002. The Division emphasized to the AAPG membership that it was AAPG’s center of activity on energy minerals and unconventional energy resources. EMD originally focused primarily on coal, uranium, geothermal energy, oil shales and tar sands. However, its focus expanded and in 2002, EMD’s most active unconventional resource areas were coalbed methane, gas hydrates, and unconventional energy economics.

Machine Learning Workflow

This presentation and demonstration will focus on a machine learning workflow in the upstream Oil and Gas domain to predict formation tops by applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to learn the well logs signatures. This deep learning model provides high quality predictions to aid the geologists in picking lithology markers consistently and in an accelerated fashion thus boosting their operational efficiency. The self-learning model, which is a unique differentiator of dataVediK and encompasses the detection of outliers and data quality issues and their subsequent validation and suggested corrections to improve the quality of data in an automated fashion during the model training process. The demo will then showcase a real-time drilling solution built using this ML model, whereby the formation tops are predicted, and the structural model is updated automatically as the GR log is acquired.
