The lower section of the lower Silurian Qusaiba Member, Qalibah Formation, is characterized by regionally developed organic-rich shales that have sourced many of the large Paleozoic petroleum systems of Saudi Arabia. In northern Saudi Arabia these high total organic carbon (TOC) horizons are being assessed for their unconventional shale-gas potential.

Depositional interpretation and sequence stratigraphic analysis of carbonate mudrocks requires numerical analysis and data integration to achieve quantitative, predictive stratigraphic and geochemical models. A depositional and sequence stratigraphic analysis is built for a basinal interval of the Tuwaiq Mountain and Hanifa Formations, Saudi Arabia.

This study uses hydrochemistry and environmental isotopes to quantify flowback volumes for fracturing fluids injected into the Qusaiba hot shale, Saudi Arabia. Less than 10% of the injected fluids were recovered while nearly 80% of the recovered fluid was formation water.

This paper presents new data for the Rub' Al-Khali Basin, Saudi Arabia, constraining the age, depositional environment, petrography, regional correlation, and fluid system of these Middle Jurassic silicic sands. This play is independent of underlying and overlying systems.

Significant advances in the technology surrounding 3-D seismic data through the years no doubt have encouraged many observers to view this major component of E&P to be just a routine piece of doing business. It’s a highly complex routine, both at sea and on land.

When OPEC announced a six-month agreement to curb production and reduce the world’s crude-supply surplus, skeptics quickly observed that a lot of people would have to keep their promises in order to make a meaningful dent in the world’s oil supply.

The terms “resilient” and “flexible” are not often used to describe OPEC. But they might be the best two words to characterize the organization.

VG Abstract

To explore and develop unconventional petroleum resources, our focus should be on improving Knowledge, Technology, and a deeper comprehension of the natural processes controlling their existence.
