AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists), SEG (Society of Economic Geologists) and SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists), student chapters of National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) organized the Second Latin American Geosciences Student Conference from 4 to 7 August 2014. The conference was hosted in Mexico City, the biggest city in Mexico and a major scientific and industrial center in Latin America.
AAPG and ABGP recently hosted a successful Geoscience Technology Workshop entitled “GTW Brazil 2014: Stratigraphic Traps and Play Concepts in Deep Water Settings,” held at the Windsor Barra Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Attention Young Professionals!
With the election of the two remaining delegate positions and the Advisory Council representative, the AAPG Latin America Region leadership structure is nearly complete.
Congratulations to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, who represented the Region at the Global IBA Competition in Houston in April 2014.
The AAPG Sister Chapter Program is an initiative connecting leaders from veteran and new chapters in order to provide mentoring and the exchange of resources and ideas.
Last month, Latin America Region members participated in a special election to increase regional representation in the AAPG House of Delegates and the AAPG Advisory Council.

This year’s Latin America Region IBA competition had the largest participation yet, with 16 universities representing six countries.
Robust activity in Latin America and the Caribbean and membership changes to AAPG were topics of discussion at the Latin America Region All-Member meeting and reception held at the AAPG Annual Conference and Exhibition in Houston on April 7.
