Meet the Candidates! 2023 LACR Steering Committee Election Open through May 16

For the first time in 10 years, Latin America and Caribbean Region (LACR) members have the opportunity choose between multiple candidates running in elections for the AAPG LACR Steering Committee, the region’s senior governing body.

Voters can choose between two candidates for running for each of the following positions, President-Elect, Vice President and Secretary Treasurer.

The 2023 elections also included an additional feature, a self-nomination form required to be considered as a candidate.

Applicants completed an online form asking them to describe their professional experience, strengths and qualifications, involvement with AAPG and other professional associations, interest in running for office, and ideas for serving AAPG’s Latin America and Caribbean Region and the greater AAPG community.

A nominating committee made up of former AAPG officers selected the final list:

Winners will join incoming President Xavier Moonan for the 2023-2025 term starting July 1, 2023.

Send place finishers have the opportunity to participate in a separate election for region representatives for the AAPG House of Delegates (HoD) or Advisory Council.

Steering Committee elections open May 2 and will be open through May 16. Delegate and Advisory Council elections open May 23 and 30.

During the voting period, all eligible members will receive a series of emails with links to vote online.

To vote in the LACR elections, members must have a professional membership category (Member, Honorary or Emeritus), be affiliated with the Latin America and Caribbean Region, and have paid their dues for the current fiscal year (running 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.)

Members in the Student (STU or STUYP) or Associate category are not eligible to run for elected office or to vote in elections.
