Water Resources Committee-DEG

The Water Resources Committee's mission is to develop hydrogeology, soil, groundwater cleanup and water management programs for AAPG annual, sectional, regional, and international meetings, as well as lectures, short courses, and publications that will demonstrate the current applications of geological and hydrogeological techniques to environmental problems. The Committee will also promote AAPG/DEG as an organization that is relevant to hydrogeology; identify what the average AAPG member needs to know to be an effective hydrogeologist in the environmental geosciences; present hydrogeology-related subjects and projects and develop skills that may be of interest to fellow AAPG geoscientists including:

  • Water resources
  • Groundwater contamination and remediation
  • Groundwater modeling-water resources and contaminant flow transport
  • Site assessment and conceptual site models
  • Groundwater geochemistry

While the Water Resources ad hoc committee does not have a current chair, DEG members and officers are quite active in this topic. Water and the environment subjects are always present at our national and sectional AAPG meeting sessions. Mike Jacobs, past president of DEG and on the Theme 6 Committee (Energy Sustainability and the Environment) for ACE 2019, is busy soliciting session abstracts for “Water management: source, recycle, disposal and valuation.” Abstract deadline for ACE 2019 is late September 2018.

DEG is interested in your input. If you would like to serve on this committee or contribute on this subject matter, contact Mary Barrett at: .
