The demands of the E&P marketplace are growing -- and with the upstream spread thin, some needs and challenges are being exposed. Much of the excitement in the geophysical industry today stems from the need for, and development of, new technologies and approaches to meet new challenges. Indeed, ordinary 3-D seismic has become just so, well, ordinary in many cases.

“Clean coal” is rapidly becoming more important as energy demands continue to rise. Clean coal is coal that has been stripped of minerals and other impurities. It is then gasified and burned, and resulting flue gases can be treated with steam and re-burned to make CO2 in the flue gas economically recoverable.

The Rocky Mountain region is poised to become the center of U.S. onshore gas production. The reserves are there, Rutt Bridges told a gathering in Denver earlier this year, but the big question hovers: Is the price right?

As part of the international effort to combat global warming, significant attention is being given to ways to sequester (store for the long-term) carbon dioxide, which is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect. This one-day course will look at some of the ways in which carbon dioxide can be stored and provide a detailed review of the SRMS framework prepared by the Society of Petroleum Engineers to classify and categorize the storage volumes.
