The workshop aims at providing a state of the art review of the contrasted structural styles of the Middle East. Based on this review, a focus should be dedicated to the implications of these regional styles and structural evolutions on the region’s economical prospectivity in terms of hydrocarbon resources. Among others, the specific challenges occurring during the exploration and production of these resources should be tackled.
This two-day workshop will be dedicated to knowledge sharing, exchanging ideas, and workflows pertaining to exploration and development of siliciclastic reservoirs in the Middle East region
Optimizing reservoirs and developing an ever-evolving intelligent model of a reservoir are key concerns for operators, particularly in challenging times. For that reason, they must have good production geologists on hand. A production geologist bridges a number of disciplines, most notably geology and engineering, but also geochemistry, geophysics, and numerical methods. Welcome to an interview with Terngu Utim who discusses production geology, its new potential and opportunities.
The AAPG European Regional Conference, “Hydrocarbons in the Mediterranean: revisiting mature plays and understanding new and emerging ideas,” will be held Jan. 18-19 in Larnaca, Cyprus.
The story of how the concept of plate tectonics was born, struggled, won its fight for existence and eventually arrived in the oil industry is multi-faceted, insightful and entertaining.
AAPG and SPE will be holding the inaugural Africa Energy and Technology Conference this December in Nairobi City.
Attend the AAPG Drone Workshop and Short Course (Nov 30, Dec 1-2 in Houston) and let AAPG launch your new or expanded ventures. Emerge with a project that will help you land contracts and connections. All attendees will learn how to get started with drone-based mapping, and each attendee will receive his or her own AAPG drone-focused project which can help you build your resume. Use your AAPG project to launch your new line of business and new sources of revenue. We will also discuss marketing your services.
Researchers from the University of Calgary found just what they weren’t looking for when they monitored microseismic signals from an unconventional resource unit in the Hoadley field in central Alberta.
Geoscientists have more opportunities than ever to make working with drones and drone data part of their skill set and services rendered. But, there are often a number of misconceptions, especially when getting started. Welcome to an interview with Michael Nash, who provides a reality check about drones and drone capabilities. Please note that the drones references are the small drones used by the general public, and are not the large UAVs used by the military and other entities.
The discovery processes of four provinces in southeast Mexico were forged through different political, economic and legal frameworks, imprinted indelibly by the history of Mexico.
In comparison with the known boundary conditions that promote salt deformation and flow in sedimentary basins, the processes involved with the mobilization of clay-rich detrital sediments are far less well established. This talk will use seismic examples in different tectonic settings to document the variety of shale geometries that can be formed under brittle and ductile deformations.

The Betic hinterland, in the westernmost Mediterranean, constitutes a unique example of a stack of metamorphic units. Using a three-dimensional model for the crustal structure of the Betics-Rif area this talk will address the role of crustal flow simultaneously to upper-crustal low-angle faulting in the origin and evolution of the topography.
