Global Occurrences and Case Studies: In this webinar, you'll learn about the quickly expanding world of exploration for geologic hydrogen. Geoff Ellis of the USGS details the nature and origin of natural hydrogen, the reasons for accumulations, and effective exploration strategies. He then reviews locations in the world where reserves of natural hydrogen have been found, and discuss current activities and trends. Avon McIntyre of Hyterra discusses the company's drilling activities in pursuit of geologic hydrogen, including operations along the Nemaha Ridge in the central U.S. The project includes Project Geneva in Nebraska, and Nemaha Ridge, Kansas, both in the U.S.
What does an exploration manager do? What is there to manage? This presentation will provide an informal overview of exploration in Chevron and summary of activities that fill the day of an exploration manager. Ben Dockrill is Chevron’s exploration manager for Namibia, a position he assumed in early 2023. With 19 years of experience, Dockrill joined Chevron in 2007 and has held roles that span from exploration to reservoir management with increasing responsibility in Australia, Africa and the United States. Dockrill has a Bachelor of Science (Honors) from the University of Sydney in Australia, a doctorate in geology from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland and MBA in renewables from Berlin University of Technology in Germany.
This webinar focuses on the practical application of AI and machine learning. We will walk through the exercise of creating an unsupervised SOM (self-organized map) in Paradise. It includes explaining the simple concepts of Principal Component Analysis - in order to go through data reduction and come up with a "recipe" of seismic attributes to be used in SOM, then go through harvest (learning process) to final analysis. After showing results in the 3-D viewer, the focus turns to creating geobodies out of key neurons and to show how to apply volumetric information to obtain estimated reserves. The presentation includes taking bits and pieces of data from projects to show the principles of Machine Learning and the results. This is a working presentation of the software and how to achieve the results shown in the case histories.
Lessons Learned and New Opportunities: Don't miss a great opportunity to learn about brand new developments and opportunities in orphan and marginal wells, with leading operators and experts who share their insights and pathways to success.

The Imperial Barrel Award (IBA) recognizes the highest academic achievement of exploration geoscience, and in that respect, this year was no different. What was different about this year’s IBA competition is that – due to a global pandemic – the teams had to meet, work, practice and deliver their presentations virtually. Also for the first time, the IBA awards ceremony was held completely online. We invite you to experience the Imperial Barrel Award ceremony on this video. Congratulations to all the participating teams, their advisers and mentors, volunteers, coordinators and co-chairs, and thank you to all the sponsors, without whom this year’s IBA would not have been possible.
