Since the lockdown started, AAPG Europe has been working to bring to your screens geoscience - case studies, knowledge sharing and new learnings in an engaging and informal way. Meet the experts, expand your knowledge, challenge your thinking and network with peers.
Mondays - Our Monday Let's Connect is focused on geoscience talks, technical presentations, as well as energy transition interest topics such as sustainability, carbon capture, geothermal solutions and others.
Wednesdays - Wednesdays' speakers will present exploration successes over the last 50 years, talks from our previous Regional Conference in Athens and talks presented at the AAPG APPEX.
Fridays - Dedicated day to women in geosciences, inspiring women who have chosen to develop their career and skills within the geosciences world. Fridays are also dedicated to Young Professionals, who will talk about the future of their careers and ways of upskilling.
Monday June 1
Andrea Moscariello (UNIGE)
In a world were the population grows at a rate of 10 people every 5 seconds the energy demand will endlessly increase. At the same time, the demonstrated effect of burning fossil fuel on climate, require a shift in global population usage of hydrocarbon and actively look at alternative, cost-effective, reliable and possibly renewable sources of energy. This and related topics will be addressed and expanded in this talk which will provide few examples of past and ongoing projects from which important lessons can be learnt and used to help the future development of geothermal energy in sedimentary basin.
Monday June 8
Alan Foum (Zanzibar Geophysics)
Geophysicist with extensive worldwide experience in exploration, appraisal and development settings gained at BG group a major operator. He will talk about future energy demand modelling in terms of oil, gas and electricity including renewables with his presentation "Petroleum Perspectives, Past Present and Future"
Wednesday June 10
Gil Machado (Chronosurveys Lda)
Gil is a Petroleum Exploration Geologist with a Ph.D in stratigraphy and source rock characterization. Gil's presentation "Reducing Uncertainty and Increasing Chances of Success Using Biostratigraphy", will explore the role of biostratigraphy in the exploration workflow. Several success cases from around the World will be detailed, showing the uses of this discipline for sedimentation age determination, paleoenvironmental interpretation and source rock characterization.
Wednesday June 15
Ray Leonard (Anglo Eurasia LLC)
Ray Leonard will be talking to us about "Climate Change, Covid-19 and the Effect on Energy’s Future". Fossil fuels have led to a profound increase in world living standards but resulting emissions of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere are a primary factor in climate change. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 has resulted in a significant decrease in world economic activity, which in turn has led to a major, if temporary, decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2. Register for the Let's Connect and explore the different world paths with Ray.
