All roads led to the 35th International Geological Congress (IGC), the Olympics of geoscience congresses, held from 28 August to 4 September 2016 in Cape Town, South Africa.

This prestigious geoscience event featured plenary sessions, technical sessions, short courses and field trips, covering aspects of the geosciences from hydrogeology, geohazards, petroleum geoscience and environmental geoscience to medical geoscience, among several others, under the major themes of Geoscience for Society, Geoscience in the Economy and Fundamental Geoscience. It all was held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre – and with more than 4,500 delegates in attendance, the event was amongst the largest of the IGC congresses ever held.

Delegates got the chance to interact and network in person with AAPG President Paul Britt and AAPG Executive Director David Curtiss at the AAPG exhibition booth and during the several networking sessions that were held.

AAPG wishes to appreciate the support and contributions of the AAPG Africa Region delegate to South Africa, Mr. Kaushal Trivedi, and GSSA South Africa executive director Craig Smith, for successful interactions during this period. The meeting, which takes place every four years, will be hosted by India in 2020.
