AAPG recently held its first workshop in Namibia on ‘Hydrocarbon Potential in Namibia’ which took place from the 7th – 9th June 2022 at the Hilton Hotel, Windhoek. The workshop attracted 110 attendees from 43 different companies and 13 different countries.

The opening of the workshop, which took place on 7th June morning, included an opening address delivered by Maggy Shino, Petroleum Commissioner, Ministry of Mines and Energy, Namibia, followed by an inaugural keynote speech delivered by Victoria Sibeya Executive: Upstream Exploration, NAMCOR, and finally a technical keynote on ‘Evolution of the Namibian Continental Margin: An Integrated Overview’ by Roger Swart, Founder, BlackGold Geosciences.

The three-day workshop also included 25 oral presentations, 5 poster presentations, and an invite only Students and Young Professionals Meet n Greet evening which was sponsored by Petrofund.

The program covered the below topics:

  • Tectono-Sedimentary Evolution and Structural History
  • Petroleum Systems of Namibia

The event also hosted a Rifted Margins Interactive Seismic Workshop on 8th June, led by Paul Bellingham from ION Geophysical. The optional pre-event field trip took place from 3 - 6 June with a total of 15 participants. Ansgar Wanke, Upstream Exploration Services Namibia, and Collen-Issia Uahengo, University of Namibia led the participants to Southern Namibia where they were introduced to the Upper Carboniferous - Permian lower Karoo sequence.
