Advanced Petroleum Systems Analysis in the Asia Pacific Region: New Technology and Applications

Occurred Wednesday, 17 March – Thursday, 18 March 2021, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. | Virtual Workshop via Zoom (Perth, Australia time)

This event was originally planned as a Face to Face meeting in Perth, Australia. Due to Covid-19 concerns, the Committee has decided that it will now be a virtual event, with a hybrid component where residents of West Australia can choose to register/attend in person.

Venue: Curtin 139 St Georges Terrace, Perth, Australia

Recorded sessions will be made available to registered and paid delegates for 60 days after the event via a secure AAPG site. The link to this site is unique to the email address used to register for the event by Delegates, and cannot be shared.

Traditional “Geochemical and basin analysis” has significantly progressed in recent times and is now more about integration of various data types and techniques towards a holistic petroleum systems analysis, rather than traditional burial history and migration pathways modelling.

New source rocks, mainly non-marine have been identified in the Asia Pacific region using these integrated analyses and techniques, both onshore and offshore. Coupled with this, there has been a rise of primary biogenic gas a resource in the region, and such systems require a fundamental shift in charge analysis process from the more conventional thermogenic systems.

With the abundance of new data from wells, logs, cores, seismic and geochemical analysis, big data offers the potential to make petroleum systems analysis an ever better predictor of the presence of hydrocarbons.

This workshop will focus on advances made in petroleum systems analysis as a predictor of hydrocarbon presence, new technology and applications, and future directions of this important geological tool.

Applications of big data and machine leaning/artificial intelligence in petroleum systems analysis
Occurrence and prediction of non-hydrocarbon gas content in reservoir fluids
