Ignacio Iregui is a Young Professional working currently as an exploration geologist with CEPSA Colombia S.A. in Bogota, Colombia. He started with AAPG thanks to networking during an internship opportunity after his fourth out of five education years (B.S, Universidad Nacional de Colombia) for the national oil company ECOPETROL.  He was founder and president of the AAPG Student Chapter while at UNC. During his final year of Bachelor's study he had another internship opportunity with Oxy-Bogotá. During this period he also participated as member of the 2011 IBA Team for UNC which won 1st place in the Latin American Region and 4th in world-wide competition. After his first degree, Ignacio joined Oxy as a Reservoir Geologist and he was also appointed as the Young professional Lead for the LA Region. Soon after, he obtained a full scholarship from CEPSA for a M.Sc. degree from the Institut Francais du Petrole (IFP) and moved to Paris in 2013.  He was elected as president of the Student Chapter of AAPG for IFP.  He was able to work on his M.Sc. thesis as an intern for CEPSA in Bogotá.  He has been appointed Student Chapter Liaison for L.A. region and is currently working as an Exploration Geologist for CEPSA. His B.S. thesis was entitled  "Static Model for Esmeraldas Reservoir in a Mature Oil Field, Middle Magdalena Valley" and his M.Sc. thesis was entitled "Stratigraphic Characterization of Basal Tertiary deposits in a Foreland Basin, Colombia." Ignacio likes to share his experiences in oil company exploration and development with students. He enjoys the choice he made to enter petroleum exploration and will discuss the technical challenges in his early career.
