Frank Peel is interested in all aspects of salt and salt tectonics. Born in Birmingham, England, he studied the geology of the internal French Alps for his doctorate at the University of Oxford. He has more than 30 years of oil industry experience, working for BP as a structural geology specialist, and later at BHP Petroleum as Chief Geologist. In 2013, he switched to academic research, first at the National Oceanography Institute in Southampton, United Kingdom, and now at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is a member of the Applied Geodynamics Lab team within the Bureau of Economic Geology.
