Heart of GOLD redux 49 0
Started by Patrick Ng
Beyond sing along with Neil Young 'Heart of Gold', we can expand energy supply - hot and wet mix. From physical, heat to digital (coin mining). https://www.nrel.gov/news/program/2022/mining-and-geothermal-industries-could-strike-gold-through-partnership.html Rephrase 'Oil & Gas Deep Learning and Geothermal Could also Strike GOLD Through Partnership.' Consider we drill more than a million wells a year, gain lots of sampling and knowledge of geology. Deep Learning / whatever algorithms...

Geothermal Pivot 2022 Datathon 93 0
Started by Patrick Ng
https://www.spegcs.org/events/6411/ We have read in Explorer: 'Existing Infrastructure Could Power Geothermal Revolution' (AAPG Explorer, January 2022) and watched PBS Geothermal video: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/why-geothermal-energy-is-being-viewed-as-a-viable-alternative-to-fossil-fuels Now we can get hands on with SPE's datathon (still time to register and play by this Sunday) which will run through July 24, 2022. Sign up at very reasonable $ 15 (non member). SPE member...

For 3D, we have the tools - convolutional neural network CNN for image recognition (seismic sections), recurrent neural networ...

Update codes from Tensorflow 1.0 to 2.0 - Road Taken 143 0
Started by Patrick Ng
If you are, like me, having bunch of deep neural network (DNN) Tensorflow 1.0 (tf.1) codes that served their purpose, but now want to run on GPU and perform more experiments faster, then the following may help save a weekend (rather than banging head tracking down barrage of error messages). Issue - Tensorflow 2 (tf.2) supports GPU but is not backward compatible (tf.1 codes won't run as is). Lesson 1 - upgrade from tf.1 to tf.2 (i.e., completed installation), the first roadblock is...
