As drilling conditions evolve with new technologies, wellbore stability is more important than ever. Welcome to an interview with Cory Fehr, Integrity Insitu. Cory and his team have invented a tool that can conduct downhole tests to assure wellbore stability and integrity.

What is your name and background?

Cory Fehr
Cory Fehr
Cory Fehr, Founder of Integrity Insitu and active in oil and gas industry for 23 years in roles ranging from Reservoir Engineering Technologist to Operations Coordinator.

What is the name of your company and a brief history?

Integrity Insitu.  Born in 2013 out of frustrations related to geomechanics data collection, we’ve invented a direct measurement downhole tool that incorporates multiple in situ tests with all data seen at surface in real-time.

How did you become interested in innovation and new technologies?

Shallow tool in mast
Shallow tool in mast
Out of necessity, to address the pains associated with geomechanics data. Have always been interested in mechanical systems and logging tools, having applied them to dozens of projects.

What is the name of your new technology?

Insight Tool (IN SItu GeomecHanics Testing)

What is the problem that is solves?

The issues associated with attempting to capture core for geomechanics testing purposes.

What are opportunities that it opens up?

Rapid, repeatable and trusty rock strength and stress measurements for wellbore stability modelling, CCS or SAGD caprock investigation, or frac optimization via direct measurements captured from within the target lateral. Huge time and financial savings, and potential increases to production.

Please describe a few successful implementations.

Successful bench testing of both our shallow and deep prototypes has occurred, in which we compared lab data to our shear head component of the device.  Various parameters were also captured in situ during shallow prototype testing, with additional bench and field testing planned over the next 6 months.

What are your plans for the future?

Creating additional tools in a variety of sizes for use in offshore as well as onshore environments worldwide, along with transferring this technology into both the mining and civil engineering fields.
