The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the top three research petroleum universities in China launched three new Research Centers in China on May 22 in a ceremony at the AAPG Annual Convention and Exposition in Salt Lake City. The AAPG-China Research Centers will allow further scientific and technical interchange and joint scientific investigation between the geoscientists in China and AAPG's global community of energy technical experts.

The Research Centers have announced their first joint events: AAPG-CUP (Beijing) Research Center will organize a Geosciences Technology Workshop, Deep and Ultra-Deep Petroleum Systems: What We Know and Don't Know, which will take place October 26-28. Next, the AAPG-CUT (Chengdu) will participate in the 9th International Symposium on Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, to take place in Chengdu, October 29-31, to be followed by a field trip. The AAPG-UPC (Qingdao) Research Center will begin participating in planning sessions for a publication that represents a cutting-edge fusion of geosciences and engineering, and which will contain articles contributed by all the AAPG-China Research Centers.
