Published
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

China is vigorously promoting shale production, which creates excellent opportunities for joint ventures, consulting, and knowledge exchange. With more than 80 presentations, both oral and posters, the first-ever joint AAPG-SEPM-Petrochina-China University of Petroleum research conference on Fine-Grained Sedimentary Systems and Unconventional Resources presents an opportunity for unique knowledge exchange, and other potential opportunities. Held September 22-28 in Beijing, China, the event will consist of a conference as well as two field trips and a short course.

Sessions (September 23-25)
  1. Fine-grained sedimentary systems and their depositional environments and distribution
  2. Reservoir characteristics of fine-grained sediments and their heterogeneities
  3. Hydrocarbon generation and occurrence in fine-grained sedimentary systems
  4. Petrophysical and geomechanical properties of fine-grained sedimentary systems and their geophysical responses
  5. Unconventional hydrocarbon extraction technologies for fine-grained sedimentary systems
  6. Case studies and special problems
Schedule:
  • Sunday, 22 September – Short Course, “Evaluation Methods of Shale Gas Reservoirs”
  • Sunday, 22 September – Icebreaker buffet dinner / welcome
  • Monday, 23 September – Presentations / formal recognition dinner
  • Tuesday, 24 September – Presentations / buffet dinner
  • Wednesday, 25 September – Presentation until noon / end of technical conference
Field Trips:
  • Field Trip No. 1 – 26-28 September (Thursday – Saturday):
Destination: Geological Section of Silurian Marine Shale in Guanyinqiao, Chongqing, China
  • Field Trip No. 2 – 26-28 September (Thursday – Saturday):
Destination: Geological Section of Triassic Lacustrine Shale in Ordos Basin, Shaanxi province, China
