American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

Immerse yourself in any company for long and you’ll find a specialized world of acronyms that quickly become second nature. AAPG is no exception. In addition to the many internal acronyms that help us take care of business, we use several acronyms in regards to our events. Although we make every effort to define these acronyms in our marketing pieces sometimes questions still arise. So, FYI, here’s a guide to our event acronyms:

ACE — Annual Convention & Exhibition, also referred to as the Annual Meeting. This major event of the year for petroleum explorationists attracts 5,000-8,000 professionals from an average of 80 countries. The 2011 ACE will be held in Houston, 10-13 April, at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

ICE — International Conference & Exhibition. Scheduled in strategic locations around the world, ICE is complemented by an exhibition attracting 1,500-plus industry professionals. The 2010 ICE will be 12-15 September at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre.

APPEX — AAPG’s Prospect & Property Expo. This high-level gathering of global decision makers is held every March in London. APPEX 2011 will be 1-3 March in London.

ATC – Arctic Technology Conference. OTC’s new Arctic Technology Conference is managed by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The first ATC will be held 7-9 February in Houston.

3P Arctic — The three “Ps” in this acronym stand for the Polar Petroleum Potential. This biennial event focuses on the circum-Arctic basins. 3P 2011 will be held 30 August – 2 September in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

In addition, AAPG is also a participating partner in the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) and the North American Prospect Expo (NAPE).

TTFN (that’s that for now)
