Hosted by the Society for Petroleum Engineers, AAPG and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the event in Houston will feature discussions led by leaders who are shaping the future of carbon capture, utilization and storage.

Geoscientists and engineers who lend their expertise to further carbon capture, utilization and storage advancements take on an increasingly critical role in the future of carbon as the energy sector continues to grow and evolve. Spurred by recent legislative and policy changes, significant private sector investment and new government funding have made CCUS projects and developments more attainable than ever.

Now in its fourth year, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage 2024 aims to highlight innovative projects, technologies, and discoveries that will support geoscience, engineering, and energy professionals who are shaping the future of carbon. The event–hosted by the Society for Petroleum Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists–brings together more than 1,500 global attendees and participants to address CCUS challenges and advances.
CCUS 2024 in Houston, Texas is themed around “An Emerging Field for Energy Professionals” and will feature panel discussions, specialized luncheon talks, and technical presentations by leaders from Denbury Inc., Shell, Truist Securities, The University of Texas at Austin, the Imperial College of London, and more.

Discussion topics this year will include:

  • Subsurface Geologic Storage
  • CO₂ Enhanced Hydrocarbon Recovery
  • Reservoir Monitoring and Risk Assessment
  • Case Studies
  • Industry Applications
  • Economics, Incentives, and Policy
  • Infrastructure
  • Non-technical considerations

Alongside a dynamic technical program, CCUS 2024 will also offer a full-day field trip to the Brazos River Delta for geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and geophysicists, exploring the processes that transport sediment and the characteristics of deposits in a coastal environment dominated by barrier islands. The trip will dive into how these deposits can be used as an analog for subsurface studies.

Interactive student activities and professional networking opportunities will provide additional levels of engagement and facilitate even further discussion. A full conference itinerary and list of speakers and presenters are available on the event website.

Registration is now open for the event held on March 11–13, 2024. Early bird pricing is offered until January 29, 2024.
