Social media/viral marketing can sound daunting to those who have never ventured onto Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. But in fact, most of us have been using viral marketing and social media for a long time. Maybe you attended an event or made a purchase that left you satisfied, so you spread the word to your friends and colleagues. That’s social media. This commercial from the 1980s is the easiest way to illustrate:

If you’re attending the AAPG International Conference & Exhibition in Calgary next week, be sure to tell your colleagues and invite them to join you. Tuesday’s robust technical program will highlight the importance, future and development of unconventional resources and the line-up includes two EMD sessions on oil sands/heavy oil, both regional and Alberta case studies, and two EMD sessions on the Bakken Shale. Special one-day pricing makes it a great option for local folks.

If you take pictures or video of your trip to Calgary, please share them with us. Please note that while photography/videography is not allowed in the technical programs or exhibition hall, you can share your images from field trips or sightseeing, or perhaps even group shots of colleagues socializing at the event. Post them to our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/AAPGevents.

See? This social media thing is easier than you think.
