The AAPG Easten Mediterranean Mega-Basin: New Data, New Ideas and New Opportunities GTW took place on 6 – 7 September 2019 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Alexandria, Egypt. We received 77 attendees from 36 different companies and 13 different countries.

This two-day workshop consisted of technical presentations, poster presentations, and an optional short course.

The event focused on highlighting the latest geological and geophysical thinking about the Eastern Mediterranean and its petroleum systems.

The first day opened with an inaugural keynote speech delivered by Bill Bosworth, Apache Egypt Companies, titled “The Role of AAPG GTW’s in Exploration”.

The workshop included the following technical sessions:

• Session 1: Tectonic Controls on Stratigraphy and Hydrocarbon Systems
• Session 2: Advances in Seismic Datasets – Acquisition, Imaging, and Interpretation
• Session 3: Exploration Models – Successes and New Concepts
• Session 4: Open Floor Discussion

On the second day the workshop featured a luncheon keynote address delivered by Dr. Samir Raslan, EGAS, titled Mediterranean Gas Potential is the Future for Egypt.

The day prior to the event, attendees had the opportunity to enhance their career and professional development by attending the short course on “Advanced Basin Modelling and De-Risking Exploration in Frontier Hydrocarbon Provinces: The East-Med Dedicated Workflow”. The course was lead by Fadi Nader and Nicolas Maurand, IFP Energies nouvelles and Nicolas Mouchot, Beicip-Franlab.
