Hedberg 2020Mexico City, Mexico

From time to time the AAPG Research Committee selects a topic for critical examination. They will invite scientists from various disciplines (geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, etc.) to discuss state-of-the-art concepts, methodologies, case histories, and future directions relating to this subject. The conference are held in informal settings with a maximum of 80-100 attendees.

Hedberg
Mexico City, Mexico
Tuesday, 4 February Thursday, 6 February 2020, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

One of the last remaining hydrocarbon exploration frontiers of the Gulf of México (GoM) “Super-Basin” is the Early Mesozoic and Paleozoic sedimentary section stratigraphically below the autochthonous Middle Jurassic Louann Salt and its equivalents. Join AAPG for presentations from both Industry and Academia on themes including the Potential of the Paleozoic of the circum-GoM Region.

Tuesday, 18 June Thursday, 20 June 2019, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

The past two decades have seen not only a continued interest in the topic of hydrocarbon microseepage, but have resulted in ongoing development of new and novel exploration technologies and applications. This research conference to be held June 18-20, 2019 in Houston, Texas, brings together experts from industry, academia and government to review the state of knowledge of hydrocarbon microseepage. Conveners for this conference are Dr. Dietmar (Deet) Schumacher and Dr. Gary K. Rice.

Monday, 4 March Wednesday, 6 March 2019, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

This Hedberg research conference will focus on the changes in petroleum systems analysis from the late 1970’s to current day. The goal of this conference will be a “passing of the torch” with an exchange of ideas from experienced specialists to young professionals.

Sigüenza, Spain
Monday, 2 July Thursday, 5 July 2018, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

The conference will address the geology of the area from the southern onshore of N America to the northern onshore of S America, including the Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas Platform, Yucatán, Caribbean (Colombia, Venezuela), Grenada and Tobago basins and adjacent Atlantic. Integration will improve understanding and promote investigation of lesser-explored/debated areas, such as the Caribbean. Recent seismic and drilling discoveries from other offshore frontiers will help assessment of their hydrocarbon potential.

Friday, 28 April Sunday, 30 April 2017, 8:00 a.m.–11:59 p.m.

This conference aims to stimulate new ideas and joint industry-academic ventures that can accelerate the exploration and development of shale oil resources in mature petroleum source kitchens in petroliferous basins. Such further advances are likely to be among some of the most significant developments for the oil and gas industry in the next decade as conventional petroleum traps become depleted, while unconventional resources –show continual improvement in productivity, but are inefficient in recovery factors. The conference will provide a venue for both industry and academic geoscientists to increase awareness of the needs and interests of each party and focusing on emerging concepts, novel technologies, and global case studies.

Sunday, 7 December Thursday, 11 December 2014, 4:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.

There is a constant and rapid evolution of hydraulic fracturing techniques; however there are important uncertainties remaining with respect to our understanding.  A current view in the industry is that 80% of the production comes from 20% of the fracs. If that is correct, considerable money is wasted by the industry. The purpose of this conference is to bring together geologists, engineers, geophysicists, petrophysicists and other geoscientists to address these issues and determine multidisciplinary solutions for the future.
