Greer entered into the oil and gas industry as a geoscientist in 1979 and joined ExxonMobil in 2010. His previous companies were Pennzoil, Columbia Gas Development, Hunt Petroleum and XTO. Barriault is currently active in the Inland Division of the American Red Cross Gulf Coast and previously coached and administered youth soccer programs where he was also responsible for providing both technical and safety training.
