In today’s world of "Big Data," the pumping data from every stage being fractured is likely being recorded and stored somewhere and in many cases being used in an analytical program to help optimize operations. However, one variable that has an overwhelming impact on fracturing responses is how the rock properties at the perforations vary, and without taking this into account, analytical models often fall short. This talk will discuss how this data is an integral part of providing insights into completion analytics.

Solveig Field, situated in the South Viking Graben offshore Norway, consists of three structural compartments and two reservoir sequences containing oil and gas. Here we show the impact of petroleum system analysis from the exploration stage, (identification of variable fluid properties, occurrence of tar mats), to field development which was based on the process understanding of tar mat formation as a function of the field charge history.

A common question in appraisal or development of either conventional or unconventional reservoirs is understanding the control on production yield (stb/mmscf) or GOR (stb/scf). Fluid and/or rock-based geochemistry is a useful tool in conjunction with engineering principles to understand what the primary mechanism(s) are controlling production yield. Here we will look at the use of geochemistry to access yield for tight reservoirs.

Some examples of application of 4D seismic in clastic and carbonate fields, as well as its use in a geomechanical context will be given, and finally conclude with a reflection that 4D is a transverse subject where many disciplines are involved.

Join the Petroleum Systems Technical Interest Group (TIG) for the next session of the AAPG Petroleum Systems Webinar Series, "Basin Modeling of Thermicity and Diachronism of South Atlantic Rifted Margin: An Example from the Presalt of Brazil", on Wednesday, 4 May 2022, 8:00 AM (CST). Rifted margins contain prolific petroleum systems due to their unique crustal evolution, which frequently causes very favorable combinations of source rock deposition, heat flow evolution, and structural/stratigraphic trap configuration. Structural restoration and basin modeling help understand observed geometries and thermal data, suggesting a strong diachronism between heat flow and structuring/faulting. These concepts and their implications are highlighted with an example from the pre-salt basins in offshore Brazil.
