For over thirty years, Midland Valley Exploration (MVE) have been developing geological software and supporting structural geologists from all over the world.
Closely involved with academic and research communities, MVE is fully committed to investing in the next generation of geoscientists. Their Academic Software Initiative (ASI) provides educational establishments with access to the ground-breaking Move™ software suite, completely free of charge.
This allows academic staff and students to access cutting-edge structural modelling and analysis software, equipping them with the best possible tools to solve real-world problems.
Midland Valley has around 300 universities who are members of their ASI. That’s 300 institutions who benefit from access to a world-class application; helping bolster departmental budgets and enable more geologists to be trained in structural geology.
The software package itself offers an extensive range of tools for geometrically constrained model building and kinematic analysis in 2D and 3D space.
Since 1983, geoscientists at Midland Valley have used restoration and balancing techniques to unravel geological evolution and extract unseen information from a wide range of data types. Their approach minimises technical uncertainty, and enables companies to reduce risk in a methodical and cost-effective way.
While other companies make software for model building, MVE’s kinematic modelling tools help users challenge their assumptions, to discriminate between alternative interpretations, and – perhaps most importantly – to produce more accurate models.
In the not-so-distant future, the deciding factor on whether the new generation of geoscientists just continue to rely mostly on guesswork or whether they become the leaders in their field may be decided by whether or not they are critical thinkers who are also proficient in the complex and sophisticated application that is Move™.
