Empowering the next generation of geoscientists

The AAPG Foundation has served the next generation of leaders in exploration for over 50 years. Through scholarships, grants, awards, and publications, the AAPG Foundation is committed to collaborating and disseminating the latest in geoscience research, as well as supporting those who study, teach, and research oil and gas exploration.

The Foundation has invested millions of dollars since its inception in 1967, which have all gone to support individuals and organizations who are pursuing the advancement of geoscience. These organizations, universities, teachers, and students are crucial to bettering our planet and providing the means for society to thrive. Students

Scholarships

Field Camp Scholarship

A one-time $3,000 grant provided to deserving undergraduate geoscience students.

Military Veterans Scholarship

$2,500-$5,000 awarded to active or honorably discharged U.S. military members, including family members, who are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in geology or a related field.

Grants

The AAPG Foundation offers a wide range of grants to graduate students currently enrolled in Master’s or Ph.D. programs. Grants are the direct contributions from Foundation donors and will be awarded based on the wishes of the donor. You can simply apply for a grant and the Foundation will select the best appropriate grant for you, if eligible.

AAPG Foundation grants-in-aid are currently on hold for 2026, but will return in 2027. Check back for additional details.


 

Educators

Awards

Teacher of the Year Award

This annual award gives $6,000 ($3,000 for school use, $3,000 for personal use by the teacher) to a K-12 teacher within the United States who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education.

The Inspirational Geoscience Educator Award

This award honors college and university professors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field of geoscience education. Each year, one deserving nominee is presented a $6,000 award and commemorative plaque.

Programs

Teacher’s Day Program

K-12 science teachers are invited to IMAGE, AAPG’s flagship annual event, where they are given hands-on demonstrations of new methods or technologies to teach their earth science curriculum.

Earth Science Week

The Foundation supports this international event, organized by the American Geosciences Institute, which uplifts earth science teachers as they foster appreciation and stewardship of our planet in their students.
