With more than 2,000 disposal wells injecting into zones less than 6,000 feet in the Midland Basin, drilling through these disposal zones has become the biggest drilling hazard in the Midland Basin. Current estimates are that 2,3000,000 barrels of water are being disposed of each day. By 2025, disposal is projected to be 5,400,000 barrels of water per day, which is not sustainable. Operators are already seeing pressures that require more than 10# mud to keep wells from flowing. This presentation will discuss the problems, costs, and possible solutions for disposal in the Midland Basin.
