The number of Grants-in-Aid applications for this year’s cycle of awards once again was tremendous. The Foundation is awarding $239,000 to 121 master’s and doctoral students studying various fields of geoscience – more than any year before in number of dollars granted.

IBA Semifinals Successful Despite Industry Downturn

This year's competition featured a virtual round, with 17 universities participating via WebEx. Four teams advanced to the Semifinal round in Trinidad and Tobago, where students from Simón Bolívar University, of Caracas, Venezuela were named Latin America Region champions.

The participants analyze geological, geophysical, land, economic and production data in a real world scenario. The IBA regional and section competition winners qualify to compete against each other in the international finals during the Annual Convention & Exhibition (ACE), taking place in the USA, for a chance to win scholarship funds for their school.
