Evidence for a petroleum subsystem in the Frontier Formation of the Uinta–Piceance Basin petroleum province

Carbonates of the Frontier Formation, Uinta Basin, contain certain physical, petrographic, and isotopic characteristics best explained by the presence of sea-floor methane seeps. These seeps record episodes of hydrocarbon generation and demonstrate a potentially viable petroleum system.

An Update on the Review Process for EPA's Hydraulic Fracturing Study

In June, 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency released its long awaited draft assessment of the Potential Impacts on Hydraulic Fracturing for Oil and Gas on Drinking Resources. The major finding in the draft assessment is that there is no evidence that hydraulic fracturing has caused “widespread, systematic impacts on drinking water resources in the United States”.

Elemental chemostratigraphy is used to subdivide the Niobrara Member of the Mancos Shale, Piceance Basin, Colorado, into six zones. Markers identiﬁed on the geochemical logs correspond to markers used for lithostratigraphic correlations.
